Ordinary Monsters

I just started reading a new book and I’m completely drawn in. Its gothic charm and village landscapes are beautiful to see unfold on the page. The book tells a story of gifted, supernatural children and I have met only two of them so far, Marlowe and Charlie. One shines blue and melts anybody who they touch into bone and flesh. The other feels pain and even bleeds, but the wounds heal and leave no mark. There is a detective who is employed with a mysterious institution in finding and protecting these children and I’m excited to travel along in this search. I know there is more to come in this world and darker forces I have still to meet. Next chapter is at the circus where Marlowe is suspected to be hiding out and I’m hoping he has his own special show with his blue shining. A quote I love so far is when the detective is talking to a deputy who thinks of Charlie as an abomination, monsters the devil made like leviathan and behemoth. She tells him they don’t come from the bible. “Those are God’s monsters, God made them”. I believe this quote starts to illustrate the dark and miraculous beauty of these children and the people who show and give them love and will use all the power in them to protect them. I am already feeling so close to these characters and at home in the places they live. Ready for more of them to be found.
